Post-MSW Certification

We offer the Post-MSW Certification Program for those who need to earn the Type 73 Certification in order to practice social work in public schools in Illinois.

There are two ways to obtain your Type 73 Certification.

1.) If you earned your MSW in a concentration other than school social work, you will need to take coursework as well as a one-semester internship in an Illinois public school.

Specifically, you will complete the following courses:

*Spring semester:         SW 507: School Social Work Practice

SW 519: Public School Policy and Services

*Fall semester:  SW 531: Practice in Organizational Setting

                                         SW 568: Field Instruction

In additional, the Basic Skills Exam is required for all students interested in pursuing the Post-MSW Certification. This exam must be taken and completed prior to enrolling in the spring school social work classes. The learn more and to register for this exam, go to: http://www.icts.nesinc.com.
