Leaving a Legacy

Planned Giving

The term planned giving refers to charitable gifts that are arranged with forethought and planning and are executed over an extended period of time or in the future. There are a variety of planned gift opportunities, from simple bequests in a will or an estate plan, to annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, pooled income, life insurance and life estates.

The Planned Gift Officers of the University of Illinois Foundation can help you to explore these and other gift types to the School of Social Work. They will also assist you in assuring that your gift will be designated for the UIUC School of Social Work.  You may also wish to visit the planned giving section of the University of Illinois Foundation website at www.uif.plannedgifts.org for additional information.

Endowments and Current Use Funds

An endowment can be created through an outright gift, through a bequest in a will, or through a life income gift such as a charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder trust. The minimum amount required to establish a separate, permanent endowment account is $25,000. This gift is then invested by the University of Illinois Foundation on behalf of the School of Social Work. The earnings from these investments then help fund the donors cause. Donors interested in giving lesser amounts can establish a Current Use Fund, which is usually expended for a specific purpose over the period of a few years.

Sound planning can provide financial security for your family as well as assure the continuation of UIUC School of Social Work programs. For more information about how you can create a planned gift, endowment or current use fund, contact Carol Brumer Gliksman at the School of Social Work Advancement Office at 217.244.1064 or cbg@uiuc.edu.
