Current employment experience: Ken is the Coordinator of clinical and program activities related to alcohol and drug abuse, based in the Mental Health division of SIU-C Student Health Programs. He also performs generalist assessment and therapy to student/clients referred by MD providers for a substance abuse, or a co-morbid disorder. Ken has developed and facilitated groups focusing on student Adult Children of Alcoholic issues and Mood Disorders with Substance abuse group, and he has supervised graduate interns from Social Work and Counseling Psychology. This position requires presenting extended workshops at the national level on topics ranging from accurate diagnosing of substance abuse and psychiatric disorders, to the emerging dynamics present in families of addiction and effective social work interventions. Ken has a generalist private practice.
Previous experience: Prior to his work at SIU, Ken worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Carle Clinic in Urbana, Illinois. He completed a field placement internship at the UIUC Counseling Center, and worked early in his career in Probation and Parole in Texas.
